Start With What Bothers You

Cosmetic dentistry covers a wide range, from a single stained tooth to reshaping a whole smile, and the right starting point is not a treatment name but the specific thing you notice in photographs. People often arrive asking for a procedure they have read about when something simpler would achieve what they actually want. Equally, some concerns are better addressed by moving teeth than by covering them. We will tell you which category yours falls into, including when the honest answer is that the work involved is not worth what it would change.

What We Offer

Teeth Whitening

Effective on stains within natural enamel, from coffee, tea, red wine, and time. It has no effect on fillings, crowns or veneers, which is why the order matters when other work is planned.

Bonding and Reshaping

Tooth-coloured material applied directly to repair a chip, close a small gap, or even out an edge. Usually done in a single visit, and it removes little or no enamel, which makes it far easier to reverse than a veneer.

Veneers

Thin covers bonded to the front of a tooth, used where shape, colour or proportion need changing more than bonding can manage. They involve permanently altering the tooth, so they get their own page explaining exactly what that commits you to.

Replacing Old Visible Fillings

Dark or stained fillings in teeth that show when you smile can be replaced with tooth-coloured material. This often makes a bigger difference to how a smile reads than patients expect.

Sequence Matters

The order of cosmetic work changes the result, and getting it wrong is expensive. Whitening comes before anything is matched to your shade, because crowns, veneers and fillings are made to the colour of your teeth on the day and will not lighten afterwards. Whiten first and the new work matches the brighter shade; whiten later and it will not match at all. Similarly, gum health has to be sound before anything cosmetic is bonded, because inflamed gums bleed, recede, and undermine the margins of new work. None of this is a reason to delay. It is a reason to plan the whole sequence at the start rather than treating each item as it comes up.

Cosmetic Questions, Answered

Expectations, longevity, coverage, and where to start.

Where should I start?

With a consultation where you say what bothers you rather than what you think you need. We look at the teeth, the gums, and how everything sits together, then set out the options with honest trade-offs, including doing nothing. You leave with a plan and a cost, and no obligation to book anything.

Will whitening work on my teeth?

It depends what is causing the colour. Surface staining from food and drink usually responds well. A tooth darkened from the inside after injury or root treatment will not lighten, and existing fillings, crowns and veneers do not change colour at all. We will tell you which applies to you before you spend anything.

Is cosmetic work covered by insurance?

Usually not. Plans generally cover treatment that is necessary for health rather than appearance, so whitening and veneers are typically excluded. Some work sits in both categories, such as replacing a failing filling that also happens to be visible, and that may be covered. We check your specific plan and tell you what it says before you commit.

How long does cosmetic work last?

It varies by treatment and by habit. Whitening fades gradually and is topped up. Bonding is the least durable and can chip or stain over the years. Veneers last longest but are the biggest commitment. Grinding shortens the life of all three, which is one reason we ask about it before recommending anything.
